Jaulah (or gasht) is a key practice of Tablighi Jamaat where members visit homes in the community to invite people to pray and listen to religious teachings.
Etiquettes of Jaulah/Gasht
- Group formation:
- Groups typically consist of 3-10 people.
- Three people are given specific roles: Ameer (leader), Mutakallim (spokesperson), and guide.
- Behavior during gasht:
- Walk on the right side of the path with lowered gaze.
- Lower gaze and avoid looking at worldly materials.
- Move together as a group.
- Engage in dhikr (remembrance of Allah) while walking.
- Interaction with people:
- Knock on doors and request to speak with male family members.
- The Mutakallim should address the entire group, not just the person being visited.
- Give short, encouraging talks focused on faith and the importance of prayer.
- Time management:
- Gasht should last about 45 minutes.
- End Gasht such that everyone can join the congregational prayer.
- Make sure 5-10 minutes are left for the participants to make ablution.
- Speech content:
- Focus on the importance of faith, prayer, and following the Prophet's way.
- Emphasize the benefits of connecting with Allah in this life and the hereafter.
- Use simple language to ensure understanding.
- Mosque-based activities:
- Leave 2-3 brothers in the mosque for dhikr and dua.
- One person should welcome newcomers to the mosque.
- After gasht, give a short talk (bayan) in the mosque about the six points of Tabligh.
